possibly-impossible asked: ah right cool! :) Glad you're enjoying it. I've been dancing for about 13 years now, and im still not sick of it :P Thinking of going more seriously into it. Oh about those tights, capezio sells them, i have several pairs. Its better to buy them made with holes because when you make them yourself, it tends to expand and ladder a lot! They're called transition tights or convertible...

nicoleesings asked: ohh okay. That's awesome though! I danced when I was younger for about 8 years but I haven't danced in about 4 but I'm trying to start up again this summer & I hope to be on pointe soon : ) good luck with everything! I know how you're feeling right now with just wanting so badly to get on pointe & be super flexible & strong.

nicoleesings asked: Hi! i love your blog its so beautiful :). I was wondering just how long you have been doing Ballet for & how long it took you to get on pointe?

rosamapose asked: Do you mean convertible tights? I always made them myself when I danced, just cut a small hole in the underside of the tights and then you can pull them up your calf as needed!

9th week
business as usual in the studio today with a couple of exceptions! 1) new girl! She is 8 months pregnant so she couldn’t finish the whole class but it was nice talking to someone new. She’s also a recent beginner and she’s recovering from self-harm (which she didn’t tell me but was very apparent). I really really hope she comes back because ballet has kept me away from...

just so everyone knows, i LOVE leg warmers. I am obsessed with them. I have like 5 or 6 pairs now. I feel weird wearing them in class because nobody else does (despite the fact that my hamstrings and knees really need warming). But honestly, if i could, i would wear them everywhere. I would wear them out on the street, to bed, to the grocery store, etc. They’re so cozy…. Do you have a...

sourires-et-fouettes asked: Heyy, I don't know if someone already answered you about the Cecchetti method and Vaganova method, but just in case: Cecchetti is the Italian method, and you can take examinations in Cecchetti. Agrippina Vaganova is the founder of the Vaganova method, which is taught at the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg. There are differences between all methods of classical ballet, which you noticed...

week 8
I don’t remember much from class today :/ bad turnout, bad extensions. awful grand battement. But still, very very fun. The daughter of one of the instructors was there today and she was wonderful to watch. The most notable exercise we did today was our hamstring extension stretch. Foot on top of the high barre, reach up, reach down, high fifth, each arm out to the side. AND THEN. We...

sorryididntmeantoshootyou asked: I'll just finish here for you...use a fatter sharp needle to push through the the heel. I always tried to sew right where the stitching already is just under the elastic (but not thru the elastic). It's easier. Everyone takes the time they take...don't worry about it. The first time I did my daughter's pointe shoes it took me like 4 hours. It's considerably less now. We...

sorryididntmeantoshootyou asked: oh also a quick tip just in case. they have what's called a stitch kit u can buy that as it has good needles...or just ask the lady @ ur local dance store to show you her needle or what she uses (she might even give you one : ) and then use dental floss. It's much cheaper.

shoes?
I just finished sewing my 2nd pair of slippers! It took an hour. Which feels like forever, and i get the feeling it isn’t supposed to take this long. How long does it usually take an average (intermediate/advanced) dancer to sew a pair of slippers? Any recommendations for sewing leather? I was using a pretty small needle but it was still really difficult to thread through the material.

tips for foot cramping?
I just had my first foot cramp ever. I completely freaked out!! My 2nd and 3rd toes were stuck together and i couldn’t bend them, and my arch was stuck. I’ve never felt that sensation before and it’s incredibly uncomfortable :( I was trying to take a picture of my foot to see what my point looks like for future reference and thanks to this lovely little cramp there will forever...
